Rush Answers Abortion Question

Rush Limbaugh answered a question concerning abortion on his show Friday. It is an interesting angle on the issue that I have not thought about before. Read the transcript of this comment here or listen to the sound bite here.
What do you think about the issue of whether or not children should be considered their parent's "property"?

The truth is (since that is what we discuss here) is that nothing belongs to us. We own nothing, especially another life. We create nothing, especially another life.
1 Timothy 6 – “For we brought nothing into this world, and we can take nothing out of it.”
I realize that the previous verse relates specifically to money, and the love of it, etc…
Too many times though, people want to argue that they, “Created the life in them, and I should be able to do with it what I want.” My point is that the mentality of those who argue for the right to murder and unborn child, do so out of selfishness.
Any act to abort a baby is selfish (period).
God is the creator, and “giver” of all life. A child is a gift from God. To reject a baby is to reject God.
Life is not a property.
If it were, the next thing you know, is the government would be aborting babies under eminent domain…
I will keep this one short, so that I don’t get accused (again) of writing novels in here.

Matt,
Glad you're back, we missed you.
I think you hit on something here. Your words are more insightful than you might have originally thought. Consider for a moment the direction this country is headed. We have dual Supreme Court rulings: One banning the Ten Commandments from a courthouse; one expanding the possibilities of imminent domain. Take those two rulings and what they represent (no God; your property can go to the highest bidder) and couple them with 1,000,000 abortions a year and the development of genetic engineering. Is it really at all that far-fetched to imagine "imminent domain" when it comes to our children???
Wow, I am terror-stricken at the possibilities. We need Bush to do his job now more than ever, don't we?
P.S. Don't any of you even think of labeling me a fear-monger. While this is a stretch of what might be possible it is still possible nonetheless.
"There are two ways, one of life and one of death, but a great difference between the two ways."
"... you shall not murder a child by abortion nor kill that which is born."
- the first sentence and an excerpt from the second mandate of the Didache, a basic teaching of the apostles to the nations.
I appreciate Rush. He has a lot of practical things to say (although I don't think his worldview is fully Christian. He doesn't have a proper view of sin and Christian love, and it seems that capitolism is his messiah).
I'm not sure his argument here would be very convincing to the pro-abortion crowd simply because they do not view the unborn child as an actual person. If the fetus isn't a person, the standards that we apply to slavery wouldn't apply to the fetus.
I like Matt's approach. Abortion isn't just about the personal rights of the unborn; it selfish and evil and affects society as a whole, born and unborn.
P.S. Sean, you are a fear-monger!
Tristan,
Glad to see you back!
I agree with you about your assessment of the issue and of Rush. I wouldn't suggest Rush's argument be the end-all of the debate, I just thought it was an interesting take. And yes, Rush believes in a Creator God, but that is about as close as his beliefs are to orthodox Christianity.
Fear-monger,
I also found Rush's comments to be interesting, but not of a Christian-worldview. I, along with Matt Gaiser, Jacob and the ever eloquent Tristan believe that its not enough to say that abortion is wrong based on property rights vs the latest ruling that we truly have know property rights. Now, I understand the context by which the Great Rush is making the connection (I listen to Rush and I like Rush), because he is debating from a legal view. This may give some objectivity to a nation reeling in politics and legal action, but it doesn't compare to the legal judgment to come by our Creator. Basically, Rush's statements do not aid in the Christians' fight against abortion.
