Good News for a Change...

It appears that George W's tax cuts have done more for our economy, AND deficit, than had originally been thought. See the article from Bloomberg.com here.

Rush Limbaugh is right: "No country has ever taxed itself into prosperity." The solution to economic woes is not increased taxation.

Sean,

"Feminism was established as to allow unattractive women easier access to the mainstream of society."

Your Hero's perspective. So is it your position too, that only pretty women should the right to vote, while unattractive women don't get to vote.

What do you think your Maker thinks of his quote?

Limbaugh as a voice of reason?

This is the funniest thing I have heard in a very long time.

Thanks.

Mr. Sleep,

Interesting that you capitalized the "h" in "hero." I suppose I could consider Rush a hero AND a voice of reason. That doesn't mean that I agree with everything he says. Therefore, it's kind of hard pinning me to a statement that is off topic just because it was spoken by the same man. And there is actually some truth to Rush's comment about feminism, although I don't think he meant what you said.

And He's our Maker.

Thanks for the comment.

Sean, thanks for the clarity, and yes he is our Maker.

I just see a big gap between Limbaugh's views of the world, and what I've learned spiritually having been raised in the Lutheran church.

I think he's bad for America, and I don't see anything positive in his statement about feminism. The birth of feminism was tied to equal rights under the law and the constitution of the United States. Along similar lines to the Civil Rights movement.

His position on this is a poorly aimed attempt of humor at best.

mrsleep,
You said, "I just see a big gap between Limbaugh's views of the world, and what I've learned spiritually having been raised in the Lutheran church." The reason for this gap is that Rush is not a Christian, nor does he claim to be. He does believe in a Creator God, but that is about it (as far as I understand him). The reason many Christians like him is that he stands for morals, ethics, and absolutism. These, as you well know being a good Lutheran I'm sure, are attributes of God. There is still a difference between God's morals, ethics, and absolutes and a given culture's.

Feminism may have had a good and right purpose to begin with, but what has it led to? Look at the logical conclusion. If these women wanted to know what real equality was they should have begun with Christianity. In all of world history, it was Christianity that first introduced human worth. Women were considered slightly better than slaves during Jesus' time. Jesus views (present tense)all people equally and yet individually at the same time.
Today the feminist movement has led to broken families, homosexuality, selfishness, and an unnatural view of the Created order. So whereas, women should have a right to vote and a right to be heard, they should also follow the natural order: morally, ethically, and absolutely.

I wanted to share my humble, probably unpopular, opinion on this. Feminists, adopted some very dangerous ideas about forty years ago... until then that had not done much damage, but a lot of good.

In the past, women just like racial minorities could look at the Bible and find ontological value attributed to them, but in society and the church (i.e. "most Chrisitians") did not attribute much legal, social, or economic value to them. The Bible was only used to reinforce these cultural norms.

Feminisim helped to rectify some of these abuses, something like the civil rights movt. but both causes have lost fuel--they have fewer and fewer abuses to point to today, so now they've turned to dung to fuel their cause. Today the feminist movt. is hurting women across the nation instead of helping.

As far as Rush goes... he really makes some great points at times, and I cheer; but he's probably one of the most arrogant and abrasive men in media and he does little, VERY VERY LITTLE to breed unity as a nation. If you think about it, if there wasn't a great divide in American politics, Rush would be out of a job... it's in his interest to maintain it. Of course, America has always been politically and ideologically divided--I just wish it were not so venomous, there's real contempt and malice on both sides of the "culture war". I didn't care for his statement above, but I'm not the least surprised.

Rush does make some good points, politically.

I don't see anything errant about the comment that Sean posted in regards to taxation.

I prefer Michael Regan.

Just adding my 2 cents,

Ron,

I think it is a leap of faith (pardon the pun) to say that the Feminist movement has led to broken families, homelessness, etc.

Equal rights for women is good. The problem in our society is a general moral decay, and a lack of accountability.

I understand Rush's spiel, and the positions he takes. I don't take him seriously, because I view him as an "entertainer". That's my view, and not one generally shared.

mrsleep,
Tell me, other than human rights (which I believe would have come about naturally in our society, because of the church) name one other positive thing that feminism has brought to our world.

Ron,

My point solely is based upon the human rights point.

There is no common definition of feminism.

I just have a problem to lay many of societies problems as being tied to "feminism". It just doesn't wash.

It's too easy of an excuse. A scapegoat so to speak.

Having equal rights under the law is all we're talking about. Now there are prominent activists that are pursuing questionable directions, no doubt.
